The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) said on Tuesday it is not a vendor/seller of parking meter cards, contrary to media reports and advice being given to the public by Parking Meter Attendants.
In a press statement, the telecommunications company said it “…feels obligated to offer this clarification as a number of customers have visited our retail stores today requesting the cards based on media reports and direction from the Parking Meter attendants.”
From all indications the controversial parking meter project became operational on Tuesday. Although it was set to commence on Monday, there was a delay since bylaws related to the project were not yet approved by Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan.
Citizens across the Capitol City continue to criticize the move to implement parking meters, with many expressing dismay with the manner in which the project was conceived. Deputy Mayor, Sherod Duncan recently staged a picket exercise to express his disapproval of the project, describing it as “burdensome.”
